Bill served on the board and was a master gardener docent.
Bill died unexpectedly at his home in Springfield, Va., on December 30, 2020. Bill was born in 1947 in Clarksburg, W.Va., to his late parents, William W. Peters and Ruth Frush Peters.
Trained in law, statistics, and business management, he held degrees from West Virginia University (B.S. 1969), North Carolina State University (M.S. 1970) and Duke University (J.D. & MBA, 1976). Bill was an independent attorney in Washington, D.C. before becoming Church Administrator for the Unitarian Universalist Church of Arlington, Va., a position he held for 18 years.
In retirement, Bill served on the board of Green Spring Gardens in Alexandria, Va. He was a volunteer docent at the Smithsonian, where he enjoyed giving tours of the Enid A. Haupt Garden. The WVU Alumni Association honored Bill in 2018 for being a “tireless role model and advocate for LGBTQ+ students.”
